Weekly Photo Challenge – Focus

Nautilus Shell Sculpture, St.Giorgio, Venice

This week’s theme: Focus

Four very different photographs exploring the theme of focus. I see the art in everything, so while was in the city of Venice and travelling around the Dolomites I was more than spoilt for choice. It was a visual feast that left me awestruck most of the time, almost to the point that I was walking around in a sort of semi-out-of-body zen state! Not an experience you recover from quickly, and in my case I don’t want to it was wonderful.

Above one of several giant shell sculptures along the harbour on the islet of San Giorgio. Beautiful structures whose polished surfaces caught the heat and the light of the bright sun like a mirror. They were part of an art installation hosted by the Biennale as part of International Art Month in Venice.

Below, oysters encrusted onto the steps leading down to the water of the Lagoon on the north part of the island at Fondamenta Nuove…

The detail of one of the many water fountains lining the promenade at the edge of the water of La Giudecca. I love the way the water spouting from the pipe is captured in mid-air as it makes its way to the font and the pigeons below…

Then something completely different, having gone from sea level to a huge 2350m above where the yellow poppies grow at the top of the Dolomites overlooking the Auronzo Valley…

    1. Hey John, thanks! The shell sculptures were very impressive, I shall have to post my pics of others at some point. At the end of the harbour was a giant glass orchid, which was quite something too 🙂

  1. Lovely photos, and that golden shell is so dramatic and beautiful 🙂 I’m off to Venice in a few days, and can’t wait to see what I can capture on camera.

    1. Thank you so much for stopping by and for your lovely comment. You will love Venice, it is a beautiful feast for the eyes and the soul. I love Venice deeply and I can’t wait to return. Have a wonderful trip! 🙂
