This week’s theme: Sea
When I received the e-mail with this weeks photo challenge I got quite excited. Me and the sea, yep that always floats my boat, so to speak!
If you haven’t guessed by now I love taking photos of the sea, I have an affinity with water, and all things nautical, and have I got some cracking photos for you this week… ’cause guess where I just was? Â Venice! But you know that already…
I also live by the sea, and pretty much always have lived near water no matter where in the world I have been.
The only issue I might have with this challenge is narrowing my collection of images down to a select few, so as not to bore you natives of blogland. I seek to impress if possible as always, so I’ll be back….

…. a short while later…
“La Mer…” I feel a song coming on!
Venice is built on the Adriatic Sea, and the city’s marriage to the water that surrounds it, flows beneath it and gives it it’s identity and life has been celebrated annually on Ascension Day during the ceremony of ‘The Marriage of the Sea’. A ceremony that has had Venice renewing its vows to its watery Spouse for almost a thousand years. And it is a strong marriage unswerving in its fidelity. May it stand for another millennium.
Here are a few of my favourite snapshots of my most favourite and treasured city that to me sing about the sea…
If you wish to participate in this week’s challenge click here for details. New themes are announced every Friday.
Great shots. It’s so easy to get lost “inside” Venice and forget how small it actually is when viewed from afar.
Hey Mr.Zande how are you?
Thanks for stopping by and perusing my pics. You’re right, Venice as I have said before is a Rabi warren…I mean rabbit!!!! Damn that man! But doesn’t it look equally gorgeous from afar?
Wasn’t picture-postcard when i was there. Winter, grey, wet. I liked it, although the canals were filthy.
In recent years I think the Venetian authorities have really made an effort to clean it up. Both times that I’ve been there it has been pristine. Also it didn’t smell as is its reputation, there was the odd spot, but overall I was very impressed.
Gorgeous – now I want to go back immediately!
You know, me too! I can’t wait to return, I feel almost home-sick…
Good to see the weather in Venice has improved since I was there. Ten years ago it rained all day! Great shots (my camera was too wet to be of use).
Both times I have been to Venice it has been at the height of summer, so the weather has been glorious and almost too hot and humid, but I can live with that. This year I experienced a morning of torrential rain during my week-long stay, but that was it. Venice was still very beautiful in the rain, I wrote a poem about it on my other blog.
Wow, what an entry you have here … stunning photos. Never been to Venice … I don’t know why but it has never been on my bucket list neither. Your world here is stunningly beautiful so I think I stay around and share your adventures.
Thank you so much for your loveliness, and you are always welcome, stay as long as you like. I like travelling companions đŸ™‚
So do I … even if I have traveled a lot alone.
I tend to travel alone more often than not as I did when I was in Italy recently, just the way it works out. I actually really enjoy travelling alone, I think because my time is usually taken up by children and life and other people all wanting a piece of me [laughing], so for me it’s heaven not to have to be answerable to anyone and work on my own time-table. That being said though, it’s nice to be able to share some of those adventures, even if it is vicariously through my blog and the stories I love to tell.
Great shots of a beautiful place Ish. I love water as well and would love to live by the sea. Thanks for sharing hon. đŸ˜€ *big hugs*
Thanks Sophia, well you can dream and enjoy vicariously through my pics! đŸ™‚
Thank you for stopping by..
Big hugs back
A beautiful gallery Ishaiyya!! I went a long time ago. Look forward to revisiting through your lens đŸ™‚
Aw thank you Madhu, I shall keep the memories alive for you, probably for a long time to come. Venice is in my blood, which reminds me… that piece I know I need to write about my experience there needs writing đŸ™‚
Love your shots of the city đŸ™‚
Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving me a lovely comment đŸ™‚
Fabulous shots of a fabulous city! Nice to meet you đŸ™‚
Thank you so much! Venice is my absolute favourite place to be…
not easy to climb up the Marcus tower (I’m nearly 70) … so thank you for the photo!
The first time I visited I didn’t climb the tower because I was too ill. I didn’t realise at the time that there was actually a lift to the top. So the second time I took the lift. Although I am more than delighted to share my photos with you. Thank you for stopping by and taking the time to comment…
could not believe, that they had a lift, so I did not came near to the tower’s entrance
P.S.:
our daughter studied and married there (an Italian architect) – so we had many wonderful weeks in this wonderful city …
greetings by
My partner had visited Venice years ago, but he only told me about the lift at the tower after I returned! After climbing to the top of the Duomo in Florence on the same trip, that was a hellish climb even if you were fit and well, I did not like the idea of having to do a similar climb to the top of St.Marc’s tower so like you I didn’t even go near the entrance.
How wonderful for your daughter to be so well acquainted with Venice, and how lovely for you to be able to visit her there. Venice has a very special place in my heart, and I look forward to my return.
Thank you for the link…
now they are living and working in Berlin – and in their dreams always is: VENICE …
Ah Berlin is another place I love, I lived there many years ago. But yes I too will always dream of Venice.
Thank you for the link. Your photos were wonderful, I see we share a liking for certain unusual shots. I recognised some of my own in yours.
You have some beautiful shots of Venice. I’ve always wanted to go there and now even more đŸ˜‰
Thanks for stopping by my blog and liking my photos of the sea. I’ve always loved it too. I stay nearby and even work at sea most of the time. I travel in the other parts đŸ˜‰
You have some beautiful photos of Venice. You make me want to go there even more than I did before đŸ˜‰
I’ve always loved the water too. I grew up around it and still live near the beach. I even work on the water. I do love to travel and go somewhere different every chance I get. Thanks for the opportunity to preview đŸ˜‰
And thanks for stopping by my blog and liking my photos of the sea.
You are most welcome re the visit đŸ™‚
I’m pleased that I have managed to inspire you to go to Venice even more than you did before, I couldn’t think of many places that I would rather be, and like you I have travelled a lot. Although I’m never too far from water if I can help it!
Thank you for your visit and liking my photos too đŸ˜‰
